The Early Years

A 30-year resident of Elgin, Senator Michael Noland, his wife, Veronica, and their two children reside on Elgin’s northeast side. Having spent the early years of his life growing up on a farm in central Illinois, Senator Noland learned the value of hard work and self-discipline from his family.

Industrious even at a young age, he began shining shoes at age 8 and worked a number of odd jobs while excelling as a student. Working late nights at a local grocery store, he graduated from Elgin High School in 1978.

Noland served as a United States Navy Corpsman, serving with the 4 th Marine Division and at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. While on active duty he received various awards, including the National Defense Medal, Navy Marksman rating, Good Conduct Badge and letters of Commendation and Appreciation for service (stateside) during the Persian Gulf War.

On to Public Service

As a self-employed chauffeur, Noland worked his way through college, graduate school and law school. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he majored in geography. Noland later went on to earn a law degree from John Marshall Law School, where he made the National Dean’s List. Following law school, Noland returned to the University of Illinois to receive his MBA. He served two years as an attorney with the Kane County Public Defender’s Office and is currently in private practice in Elgin. Much of his practice is dedicated to pro bono advocacy.

Prior to his election, Senator Noland regularly volunteered for PADS, “Public Action to Deliver Shelter,” for the homeless and the Elgin Community Crisis Center. He also served on the advisory board of KAIROS Family Counseling Center; the Elgin Image Commission, Elgin Tree Committee, and as a member of the Izaak Walton League.
